These values are regularly emphasized by corporate leadership, beginning with the new hire orientation and extending into meetings where decisions are weighed against the values to help determine a course of action. Our Code of Conduct and Ethics is at the cornerstone of these values.
Whether a cause is formally sponsored by the company, or adopted by a department to help others in need at Christmas, giving back is central to American Modern’s identity. In a way, giving back embodies our company values. The company and its associates have very successful annual campaigns for the United Way — in 2013 and 2014 we raised over $500,000 — and ArtsWave. Other programs we support in the Cincinnati area include:
The company has set a goal to have a carbon-neutral footprint by 2015. This is a realistic goal because American Modern’s buildings use a cooling system based on the production of ice. Freezers use lower off-peak energy to form the ice, which is then used to cool office buildings during the workday. We’ve installed motion detection light sensors, and are replacing old lighting with more efficient hardware. One of our co-workers even takes home the cafeteria’s used cooking oil to power his biodiesel car.
We see diversity in the workplace not as an HR or Legal checkbox, but as a business necessity and opportunity. As part of an international corporation, we take a broad view of diversity. Its more than just acceptance of differences in race, gender, religion, age, disability, nationality or cultural identity, and sexual orientation. It is also includes experience, education, personality, and views. In a time of rising global competition, inclusion provides us with a diverse workforce that possesses a variety of skills necessary to solve our clients’ complex challenges, as well as discover new opportunities.
