  • Agreed value loss settlement [?]
    Agreed value
In the event of a total loss, the insurance company will establish a value for the damage. Agreed value coverage defines the value of the insured property in the policy. In the event of a total loss, the amount listed is the amount paid. That avoids any depreciation.
  • Broad usage allowance
  • Annual mileage plans including unlimited
  • Special consideration for collections
  • Deductible [?]
    Deductible
When a covered loss occurs, a defined portion of the loss is the responsibility of the policyholder. Depending on the policy type, the deductible can be either a set dollar amount or a percentage of the claim. Increasing or decreasing the deductible will alter the premium for your policy because it shifts the likelihood that a claim will be filed.

  • Foreign use
  • Trip interruption
  • Pet injury
  • Unlimited mileage

Every policy includes

Agreed value loss settlement

A car can be worth more than the depreciated value listed in a price book. Once we agree on a value for your prized possession, that's what you'll get in the event of a total loss. There's no depreciation or questions.

Unlimited miles

Choose the annual mileage plan that best fits how you use your car -- 1,000, 3,000, 6,000 or unlimited.

One liability charge

While most standard auto companies charge liability [?] Liability coverage
Casualty insurance has three components: liability, collision, and comprehensive. The liability portion of the policy covers your legal responsibility for bodily injury to someone or damage to someone's property. It does not include physical damage protection for your own vehicle or injuries.
for every vehicle on the policy, we charge one flat rate regardless of the number of vehicles on the policy, saving you money.

Spare parts

We include $2,000 for lost or stolen spare parts. The limit can be increased.

Towing

We include $75 to cover towing costs. This coverage can be upgraded. Learn more

Trip interruption

We'll pay up to $150 per day for transportation, lodging, and meals if your vehicle becomes disabled more than 50 miles from home for at least 24 hours.

Pet coverage

We provide up to $750 in coverage for a pet injured while in the vehicle.

Deductible options [?] Deductible
When a covered loss occurs, a defined portion of the loss is the responsibility of the policyholder. Depending on the policy type, the deductible can be either a set dollar amount or a percentage of the claim. Increasing or decreasing the deductible will alter the premium for your policy because it shifts the likelihood that a claim will be filed.

From $0 to $10,000.

Standard auto coverage

Our program includes bodily injury, property damage, collision [?] Collision coverage
Casualty insurance has three components: liability, collision, and comprehensive. The liability portion of the policy covers your legal responsibility for bodily injury to someone or damage to someone's property. It does not include physical damage protection for your own vehicle or injuries.
comprehensive [?] Comprehensive coverage
Casualty insurance has three components:liability,collision,
and comprehensive. The comprehensive portion of the policy protects your vehicle from physical damage caused by anything other than a collision, such as fire, windstorm or vandalism. Theft is also a comprehensive coverage.
and uninsured motorist [?] Uninsured motorists
Not everyone purchases adequate insurance, or even has insurance. If you are unfortunate to be in an accident caused by someone with inadequate insurance, you can be stuck with the bill. To protect yourself, you can add uninsured and/or underinsured motorist coverage to your policy. This extra coverage fills in the gap between the policy coverage of the at-fault driver and the actual cost of the damages or injuries.
Depending on your state, it may include medical payments [?] Medical payments
Included in casualty policies is coverage for medical expenses caused by an accident-related injury. It is intended to cover basic medical costs without the need to assign responsibility for the accident. The coverage amount is generally a
few thousand dollars. It is separate from liability coverage.
and personal injury protection (no-fault).

New purchase coverage

Any new addition to your collection, valued up to $50,000, is covered for 30 days to allow time to formally add the car to the policy. Collectors can increase these limits.

Many customers want the convenience of monthly or quarterly automated bill payments. With EZPay, a withdrawal is made from a bank account you specify, or charged to your credit card. We let you pick the date of the month for the payment (1 to 28). Once EZPay begins, we will stop mailing invoices.

Some states place limits on the payment plan schedules we can offer or the service fee. To confirm, check with your agent or call Customer Care at 800-543-2644.

Understanding your policy

Before you purchase insurance for your new collector car, understand Agreed value vs. Stated value.

Your insurance agent writes auto coverage every day, but opportunities for collector vehicle coverage are less common and the kind of coverage needed is different.

An essential concept that you, and your agent, need to understand is agreed value.

Every insurance policy includes a loss settlement provision which defines what amount will be paid by the insurance company in the event of a total loss. In a standard auto policy, the value of the car follows a "blue book" type formula.

In contrast, a specialty collector car policy specifies the pay out amount. But not all collector car policies are the same. The preferred method is for the carrier and the policyholder to simply agree upon the value and write that amount into the policy. If there is a total loss or theft, the payout is for that already agreed upon dollar amount. No misunderstanding. No argument.

Some specialty policies offer what they call "stated value" coverage, but it's not the same. In fact, it's really just an actual cash value coverage with a maximum limit – and the carrier determines the value of the vehicle after the fact.

Save yourself a lot of potential disappointment and insist on agreed value coverage.

How to find the right repair shop for your collector car

If you own collector cars, then odds are you spend a lot of time keeping them in the best possible condition. That means you want repairs done right.

The key is to match your car with a shop that has specific expertise with your make and model. So how do you find the perfect shop?

Word of mouth is a great way to start. Try networking at car shows, with collector vehicle clubs and on the Internet. You'll find people with similar cars who can recommend a mechanic.

How do you know what to look for when you visit a shop?

  • Make sure they specialize in your make and model car. If a shop doesn't have any cars like yours in the garage, they're not for you.
  • Ask for references. Good shops are proud of their work and keep records of satisfied customer. They will be happy to share.
  • Look at cars they are working on now. If you see shoddy repair, stay away.
  • If you have an older car, don't worry about the equipment being up to date. Some of the best shops have top quality equipment that is 50 to 60 years old.

Finally, remember to work with your insurance company. They can't tell you where to take you car, but if you ask, they can tell you what shops they have worked with and which are qualified to work on certain cars.

Your insurer can also help you negotiate a fair, agreed price in advance of the repairs. You don't want to pay for time and materials like a regular car.

And remember, start your search before a problem occurs. Introduce yourself and build a relationship that will last as long as your prized vehicle.

Staying safe

Getting safe ready for spring is easy, assuming the car was made ready for winter.

Experienced car enthusiasts know that hitting the road for the first time each year requires some prep work in the fall and spring. Here are a few ideas:

  • Adding fuel stabilizer in the fall means the car should start right up in the spring because it keeps the gas in the tank from breaking down. Without it, getting the car running smoothly may require replacing the fuel filter, cleaning the injectors and carburetor, and replacing the contaminated gasoline.
  • Using a battery tender keeps the battery fully charged during storage. It's a good idea to keep using it even during driving season.
  • Because moisture can condense in a cold engine, change the oil, but after starting the car and letting it heat to its operating temperature.
  • Inspect the hoses, belts, tires and filters for dry rot, lube the front suspension, and top off the remaining fluids.
