TREE2

TREE2
To encourage our customers to sign up for electronic billing, we started the TREE2 program. The goal is to reduce the amount of paper used in billing, both from the company and also from our customers. With 1.4 million policyholders, a lot of paper runs through the mail.

During 2008, when customers signed up, we purchased longleaf pine seedlings that were planted in areas ravaged by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. While a number of companies currently sponsor “green” initiatives involving trees, TREE2 is the only program we’re aware of that concentrates on areas which have lost much of their environment through weather catastrophe.

TREE2 saved trees by reducing paper usage, and planted trees to replace those which have been lost.

Green Routine
The Green Routine is our internal initiative to encourage our associates to be mindful of the paper that is used in the course of business, and to recycle as much paper waste, plastic bottles and aluminum cans as possible. Confidential materials are shredded, then sent for recycling.

The company has set a goal to have a carbon-neutral footprint by 2012. This is a realistic goal for us because our buildings use a cooling system based on the production of ice. Freezers use lower off-peak energy to form the ice, which is then used to cool our office buildings during the workday.
